So much talk on here as been about the credit crunch, the effect its having on our gates and what the future holds.
When we see big companies come crashing down like they have lately, you wonder who will be next. It sure seems it may get even worse before it will ever get better.
Woolworth's and MFI the latest to go under, now the company that owns Curry's and PC World have lost millions in the first half of this year, for the first time in twenty years. Some company's may survive by joining other company's in the hope it will make them stronger and able to ride out the current problems.
I believe we will see a few football clubs having to fold before to long, banks sure won't be looking to bail them out and some may look to join with another club as a way to survive.. There is talk that Weymouth could join up with Dorchester and knowing the area well, I think it could be the answer for Weymouth.
Now lets think the very worst and TUFC were on the brink of going under and so were Exeter City, both clubs looking like they would be lost forever alone with all their history. Then our chairman makes a statement that says the only way for TUFC to survive is to join up with Exeter and form a new club.
The new club would play at Newton Abbot and the name would be a combination of both the old club names. The question Is how would you feel? well not happy to start with I'm sure, but If this was the only way to save our club, so we would still have it, then would we except this?
Or would we rather the club just die and say thanks for the memories TUFC it was great while it all lasted, but the new club would just not feel like my team anymore.

I'm not sure it would be a good thing at all?? Is there not a chance that both sets of supporters would take umbrage to joining forces and as a result the new team ('weychester' or 'Dormouth') would have even fewer supporters and find it even harder to survive?? Lets face it, if we put ourselves in those shoes and Us & Exeter merge (i can barely even write that) and they decide to play at Sid James Park (because it has a bigger capacity, and they do have bigger crowds). Even though it would be closer for me to go to watch the football, wild horses would not be able to drag me there. I might be very narrow minded on this issue but i for one would NOT be able to follow a combined excretia & Torquay team. Now imagine those poor supporters of Weymouth & Dorchester who are having to face the prospect of joining forces. On the other hand if it was the difference bewteen joining forces and going bust then i suppose i MIGHT have to take a different viewpoint?  |

a very good question dave,for me i think i would sallow my pride and at least go and have a look ,but your right it would not be my team so would i stay,i think such a club would have to build a new fan base.
like i said in my other reply dont think this will happern,both clubs are now run by people clearly with their own best intrest's at heart ,so what ever was needed to be done will be done to keep each club going.

Don't think it'll ever happen, however. Logistical and ground issues, not to mention the old rivalry.
Think both us and Exeter will survive with their set-ups. Maybe in a reduced capacity but it is the same for many clubs. We've been really down before and have recovered.
Don't panic Mr Mainwaring!
I remember a cold Wednesday night many years ago with around 890 fellow supporters!
My 'friends' up here still take the piss and ask whether at a TUFC game I have to shout over to the nearest TUFC fan to ask how he/she thinks it's going!

Yes it is a very hypothetical question and while I would agree I could never see it happening, stranger things have happened before.
I do believe that real young die hards might just be able to except the new club better than say much older fans. For me, I feel its better to still have a part of the club I love, still alive, even if in different colours, than to see it die, never to be seen again.
