Well yet again I have come away from a match wondering how we didn't get at least a point.
A first class effort from all in the team, including the management team who at least were giving vocal support from the sidelines.
Northampton are a big physical team who play a bit like Stoke. Constant long throws into the box for their big forwards.
In the first half these balls were thrown at Platts, who was so well marshalled by the central defence he didn't appear for the second half.
We soaked up a lot of pressure in the first half but were good value for 0-0 at half time.
Benyon was buzzing around and put in a first rate display.
The second half I thought we began to look stronger and as the half went on we were far more into the game.
We missed a good chance, the ball went up the other end and the rest we all know about.
Despite this we threw everything at their defence and were very unlucky on several occasions.
Rene got the ball in the net in stoppage time but it was ruled out for offside, I would like to see the replay.
We have a number of corners and Rene was calling Poke up, but he kept to his own half.
The final whistle and I was gutted.
Hard to make out the ref. Thought he had quite a good first half but then started to give decisions more to them and too many yellow cards to us.
We had a very good shout for a penalty in the second half. Nothing given!
Other results went against us but if we fight as much as we did tonight we should be safe. If our bad luck continues....... who knows.
The whole team deserve MOTM
Our loan signings certainly are making a difference.
Good vocal support.
The weather up in these parts, too much snow, have stopped our 500 mile round trips for home games for a while. Hopefully I will make the Barnet game.

It would be good to read some match reports but sounds from the commentary that a partisan crowd managed to influence a weak referee who could have easily given Northampton a couple of reds. Pity that we couldn't hold out in the storm that followed but sounds like a good effort and a result against Bradford will put us back on track! In fairness, even the Northampton fan I follow on Twitter was saying Sheldrake was poor. So it sounds like he just had a mare all round, though we seemed to get the worst of it (though I always take these things with a pinch of salt). Hopefully Knill can use the perceived injustices as motivation to prevent heads going down after this From reading comments describing what was going on, it sounded like going forward we looked pretty good but defensively we were very shaky, particularly Angus who was made to look poor by Clive Platt, and that we were fortunate to hold out for as long as we did. Perhaps it's time to get Downes back in as we head into a couple more difficult games

Thanks for your match report geddingtongull and it sure sounds we were worth a point at least for our fighting display. There have been many away match reports on the TFF this season where we played very well and came away with nothing. Letting in late goals have been very costly this season and that is just one of the reasons we are having to fight for our lives now.
This was a game many fans might have expected a defeat, but credit has to be given to the team for all the effort and hard work they put into it and also to our fans who made the trip and gave their full support. Our recent run of good results now look even more important and what we need now is a good home win on Monday.
We are still five points clear of the drop zone, while both York and Aldershot have a game in hand, we do have the points in the bag and as they say, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. We do know what ever the result on Monday we will not be in the bottom two after the game, but a defeat and win for both of those clubs, would get the alarm bells ringing again.
I do not think the players heads will drop as a result of this defeat, the home fans have witnessed a great improvement in the team and I’m sure the players will give their all and as long as we the fans play our part, we can take another giant step towards safety.

Morning Gulls fans. Well done to all of you that made the journey last night
A few observations from last nights game, from a Cobblers perspective.
Firstly both teams suffered at the hands of an incompetent team of officials. Both sides looked as if they had stonewall penalties rejected, were subject to petty decisions and on other occassions serious fouls were simply overlooked. All in all, the three of them looked out of their depth.
On to more positive stuff. This was a really good game of football. Torquay came to spoil the game. Time was wasted at every opportunity and you were allowed to get away with it. No complaints - this time last year we were doing the same. It was simply a case of could we break you down and could you hit us on the break. Had you shown the urgency you did in the last 5 minutes, the game was there for the taking. There weren't many clear cut chance. We took one of ours, and then our Keeer pulled off a fantastic save when it looked as if you would equalise.
I'd agree with previous comments about our style. We are all about playing drect, dead ball and long throws. We play to our strengths, and while it's working, especially at home (10 straight wins and 7 clean sheets), then long may it continue. Very few teams get out of this divison playing pretty football.
Anyhow, good luck for the remainder of the season. For what it's worth I think you will be ok. Having seen Accrington and Aldershot twice this season my money is on them to go.

My first visit to Northampton and I must say I was surprised to find a nice attractive town with plenty of three storey villas from the turn of the 19th/20th centuries and a market square surrounded by some beautiful buildings with just the occasional 1960s carbunkle spoiling the effect. This is the County Ground. All trace of the Cobblers now erased: Nearer town there is this fine stadium which would make a smashing home for Northampton Town FC but is actually the home of the Rugby Union club. What a waste. Note the Northampton Lighthouse/Cobbler's Needle there. You'd get a great view from the top unless you are scared of heights, in which case it would be absolutely terrifying: And if homo-eroticism is your bag, then this statue at Franklin Gardens is for you: Wherever you go, there's always something there to remind you of Devon: Off down to Sixfields now. There's still snow around the perimeter of the pitch and it's freezing cold but PB is still there in his shorts as ever: Out come the teams: And on with the match, which was Bradford City revisited as the Gulls absorbed some tremendous pressure and looked like taking away a hard-won point only to fall to a goal around the 83rd minute. The ref had a nightmare and annoyed the Cobblers fans by failing to give at least one penalty in the first half, before evening things up by denying the Gulls likewise in the second. The poor sap also booked 6 players despite the game not being particularly dirty. If you have a long thower in your side it would be daft not to use him, and from the very first minute Ben Tozer's huge missiles into the box caused problems for the United defence, who also had to deal with numerous crosses from the wings. In my opinion the Cobbler's right winger Chris Hackett was the best player on the field and it was inevitable that when the goal finally came it was from yet another of his centres. There had been a warning earlier when the Gulls gave the ball away carelessly and a cross was nodded in at the far post only for the lino's flag to save us. The goal was a kick in the teeth and forced the Yellows onto the attack for the last few minutes. 4 minutes injury time were called and during that spell there was a turned down shout for a penalty when Jarvis was bundled off the ball, a Benyon shot blocked by the goalkeeper and finally a flick by Rene Howe which hit the back of the net. YYEEESSSSS!! No. Offside. Bollocks! Final impressions: the side were beaten but there's no disgrace in that since this was Northampton's 10th home win on the trot. United looked much more like the battling side from the first half of the season and well done also to the travelling Yellow Army who turned up in surprisingly large numbers. Other results were by and large disappointing for us (those Lancashire rascals Accrington just will not give up, dammit) so there's plenty of itching and scratching still to come yet. Today: come on City and the Gasheads!

With Argyle winning, I'm a bit nervous again - if York beat Rovers (0-0 after 30 minutes) we're back to being only 2 points above the relegation zone. Maybe I was wrong - maybe 50 points is the target after all, and I'm not keen on our fixture list from here on

Any one of the bottom "nine or ten" teams could still take that second relegation place. I honestly cannot remember a season where it was so close at the bottom. After last week I to thought we looked pretty safe but with Argyle winning and York holding BR at this moment in time its crucial we get some points on the board again this week against two very difficult opponents.
With 15 points or more still to play for just who is safe from Dagenham down? Its going to be an uncomfortable ride that's for sure I just hope we cam a void the dreaded "last day" scenario.

Also worth noting that we are now down to 49 points from the last 46 games, the first time we have dipped below 50
Still 0-0 at the Mem

I’m still more than happy with how the table looks Pete, while it’s a shame we let in another late goal yesterday, things are still very much in our own hands. I think Aldershot are as good as down and I can’t see York getting better results than us over the remaining five games. We have not this season once been in the drop zone and I feel we have enough about us to keep a safe distance from it. If we get another three points on Monday, then the table will look a whole lot better and we can all sleep a bit better nigh time. Yes there is still a chance we might go down, but if we battle and work as hard in the remaining games as we have the last four, then we should all be looking forward to another season in league two next season.

we are far from safe,i actually thought we showed nothampton too much respect for 70 odd minutes,we got caught out after a good spell from us,but it was coming,we tin hatted it for the first 45.We were resolute in defence but eventually your luck runs out and of course it did.But we just kept on singing, had a clear penalty turned down and a goal disallowed. The ref booked our players at every opportunity, yet lectured theirs for similiar offences. The match has gone now, onto to bradford monday,we need to go straight for their jugular no messing,or we could be straight back in the steaming smelly stuff again come monday night.

York have 3 eminently winnable games against Plymouth, Accrington and Dagenham, as well as a Southend team that may be out of the play-off picture by then. While Aldershot's fixtures are tougher, they also may have the benefit of playing teams that aren't competing for anything - Oxford, Wycombe, Southend, Dagenham, and on the last day, Andy Scott's former team Rotherham who may be locked into a play-off place (and we all know about what Tranmere did...)
This isn't over by any means. I was wrong to say we were safe - one weekend has changed that, with all the teams below us picking up points

yep york got a creditable draw at rovers today who have been in fair form, the mom in this game was the rovers goalie,he apparently played a blinder,so argyle need to be on their guard monday,of course its all ifs at present, but if york turn them over and we slip up against bradford, the terror begins
