I am genuinely sorry that Martin Ling is ill, but both he and Taylor have proved themselves to be totally inept in terms of tactical decisions, and the time has come when the Board must say thanks but goodbye.
I said about a year ago, when we were revelling in 1-0 wins achieved by sheer luck and last-ditch defending, that I could not understand why we were persisting with the policy of playing with only one forward, but was immediately shot down by Jon and others, who seemed to think that this was the correct way that football was progressing.
Tonight sounded like the worst shambles for many years. We persisted in playing with someone "protecting the back four" at the expense of an attacking player. Surely only a complete fool would believe that we need to rely ondefensively minded draws rather than going for wins ? As I have said on many occasions, what we are seeing is cautious, negative and boring, and may well be the death knell of this club.
What the hell is going through Taylor's mind ? He omits Nathan Craig from the squad when he is the only player capable of creativity in central midfield. He leaves Elliott Benyon on the bench and pushes Downes up front in a panic stricken attempt to recover the game.
We are now in dire straits and will be back in the Blue Square Premier unless these two no-hopers are shown the door and we appoint someone with at least a modicum of tactical and motivational ability.

My end of season points prediction calculation now stands at 53 points, according to this calculation we are about to enter a run of 5 unbeaten games, 4 draws and a home win against Oxford. Aldershot (a) - draw (38) Port Vale (h) - draw (39) Wycombe (h) - draw (40) Accrington (a) - draw (41) Oxford (h) - win (44) Make that 3 draws and a home win against Oxford!

Let's hope that's Taylor's last match in charge. He's clearly a very nice person but it's been an absolute disaster with him in charge. Not that things were that good under Ling. Most fans, even Steve Breed summarising on radio Devon, are totally baffled by the team selections and tactics. They clearly have failed for several months and yet the manager persists with the same failings in every match.
I see Aldershot made use of all 3 subs last night. As for us, winger Stevens was replaced by central midfielder, Morris, who has not played in months on 83 minutes. And that was it. That was really going to hurt the opposition, wasn't it? Torquay were clearly struggling to get anything going in the 2nd. half. And yet Benyon was not used, our sole creative central midfielder Craig was not even on the bench. Pacy winger Macklin was not used, poor old Thompson one of our few shining lights this season was not even on the bench. Surprise, surprise we hardly create chances and so we hardly score. No risk taking, so surprises, no invention, in fact nothing really to bother our opponents. All what we can do well is keep pretty solid and don't concede many. It's absolutely hopeless.

Taylors and Lings mentality is to defend and protect what you've got. Its tantamount to match play when you are a goal up and start defending deep when the players, through fear of conceding drop deeper and deeper until they of course concede and fall apart in the process . Taylors and Lings mentality is wrong though I can understand why they use these tactics. With such limited resources you make the best of whet you have and its inevitable that you will eventually drop deeper and deeper into the shit.

when to this one, more in hope than anything, but we are consistently poor and didnt want it enough.Apart from rene hitting the post there goalie would of had time to do the crossword it was dire, from both sides.Benyon didnt even get on the pitch,so in 3 loan games he has hardly showed, whats the point of that?Knill has a massive job on his hands to motivate this lot,if we survive quite a few should be shown the exit and given directions to lower league football,a place where many would feel more comfortable.Taylor spent the whole game lent against the away end dug out without showing a flicker of emotion or seemed interest,if he cant show he cares nor will the players

Taylor is an absolute disgrace. If he can`t set out his team to attack a very poor Aldershot team, he knows nothing about football and should resign. Even if Ling comes back, there is no way Taylor should stay in post. This illness of Lings has been Taylors nemesis. Found lacking and how can anyone have respect or confidence in him now. Leaving Craig and Benyon out of the team is tantamount to sabotaging our hopes of survival. The players should be totally ashamed of their performances, but being footballers they probably don`t give a toss and if we get relegated, they`ll move on to their next club and wage packet. Really pissed off now.

Really pissed off now. I would not call Taylor a disgrace lambrettagull, though I totally share your frustrations. I think Taylor is simply out of his depth and was incapable of stepping up to the manager role. I am sure that he was doing what he thought was best, just a shame that nobody else shared his tactical views!! I cannot understand why Benyon is sitting on the bench, why bother bringing him in if not to play him?! To only bring on Morris last night is almost beyond belief. We should be going for it against poor teams like Aldershot and Rochadale. I see Simon Baker describes Knill as having a steely edge, hope he is right and is up for making some big decisions about personnel and tactics, this is no time for sentiment, things have not been working so time for a change. Good luck to Mr Knill, I am right behind you!
