No fear, Dave. The Roscoff ferry will rescue you. Just make sure it's going the right direction.

Stay there, Dave!
Looks better than mouldy old Paignton to me.
Oh Gawd, is that Chelston I can hear knocking on my door?

Well, I suppose we could have a whip round and pay for a one-way ticket to Drake's Island for Dave. We could even arrange a pass for him to see the odd game at Millbay Park. But that's not what I had in mind. Nor did I see Dave as a "reader" only as opposed to regular contributor or thread starter. Instead it's a case of us all sometimes asking what works and noting what doesn't work on this site. My point is that there's a tendency towards gloom and decline that may be offputting at times. But I'm sure Alpine Joe will be along in a minute to brighten up the place.... I will start of by saying I’m sorry for the knee-jerk reaction post I made after reading your first post on this thread. You have made a number of positive posts about the TFF over the last few months and then made one that felt like the TFF was being kicked again. The forum gets enough of that done outside of it and rather unfairly as far as I’m concerned. From the forums point of view, Torquay United has become a rather boring football club because it’s being run far to well. There is never enough news that comes out of the club or events happening that fans can debate over. I say lets get rid of the owners we have got and get Bateson or Roberts back, even Dave Webb would do, they are sure to do things that would see post after post being made on the TFF. Lets get rid of that Lingy bloke, the only thing he did was to moan about some of the players in public, get Buckle back we sure had so much more to talk about him than we ever are going to about Martin Ling. We have done all the best and worst players, the best and worst games etc and so yes at times some subjects end up getting recycled and some other subjects might do well, while others don’t. Who would have thought a thread about a breakfast would end up getting 169 posts on it with over 3.700 page views, or a thread about grammar snobs receiving 223 posts and 13.452 page views. Look at any forum and you will see some threads have lots of posts on them and others slip off the front page not receiving one single reply. Without much to talked about Torquay United, I can only try and come up with new threads I think others might like to discuss, some will work others won’t, I’m never going to know until I make that first opening post. I know some on here do not like the political threads when they happen, but they always seem to do well and it’s always the case we can simply scroll past any subject that might not interest us. The TFF was unique in the fact it was a football forum but also so much more as far as having a good number of different rooms set up, so nearly anything could be discussed. It enjoys good days where it does receive a good number of posts and other days you might end up wondering if the internet was down worldwide. When the team wins the match day thread gets far less posts on it then when we lose a game or play poorly, why is that? I don’t know the answer, nor do I have any answers as to how to get more members to share their views with us. All I can do is ensure the TFF is here, all posts made on it are looked after and not lost, try and put what time I can into bearing in mind I do have to go to work five days a week. It’s up to others then to decide if they want to make the TFF a good well used forum, or one that will end up dying a slow death. The TFF was never about how many posts were made on it, it was always about the quality of the posts, it has never wanted to be the biggest forum or worried about how many members it has. Its run in a very open and honest way and moderated in the lightest way possible. I happen to believe it still has a place, still worthy of being opened for use rather than being archived, it will never not exist and even if it did die one day, it would remain online as there is far too much good stuff that members have put up, that needs to be preserved for others to read in years to come. While the TFF is only four and half years old, it is the only TUFC forum that has posts going back over the last four and half years.

I'm off this evening on the Brittany Ferry Armorique for an overnight to Roscoff, so if Dave is still hanging around Drakes Island I'll see if he wants a lift. The way it is going I am a bit disappointed our Tuesday evening game with D & R has been re-arranged, as I would have missed it but now need to find another valid excuse. I suppose I could just move to Sheffield!

I suppose I could just move to Sheffield! Whisper it quietly, Stefano, but I've wondered all along if this may be a good season for my sabbatical from Plainmoor. Don't say I said that, mind. Currently doing a little bit of work in Leeds but I should be home in time to catch the former People's Champion at Bramall Lane on Tuesday evening.

While you are away its nice not to be forgotten and even nicer if you move to a new place and you get a letter or a postcard from someone you know. Before I left Weston- Super- Mare at lunchtime to start making my way to a number of towns off the M5 corridor, I gave Lyn a ring. She told me I have a postcard that had just come in the post and then told me it made her laugh so much. But she would not tell me who it was from and I wracked my brains all afternoon, wondering just who would send me a postcard. I got in the front door and the first thing I wanted to do was find and read the card. It was addressed to me at Drakes Island lol and then my home address below that. I just have to share it with you as it sure has brought a very big smile on my face. So thanks Stefano for brightening up this very damp and miserable day for me. By the way the post office did not honour your first class stamp and you were a bit off with the final score.

"Margaret Thatcher, the Falklands Conflict, Dave Webb, Aggressive Policing and the Decline of British Football 1979-1989". When is the essay due? We've been discussing reading lists. I look forward to reading the finished product.

In fairness, going to Plymouth itself is a depressing experience
