I guess I picked a good one to miss 3 points closer to the magic 50 mark again!!!

Not sure how yesterdays game would rate on the entertainment-ometer but 3 points is the name of the game. Just as well that Morecambe were without three of their strikers as they certainly passed the ball about better than us and Ellison et all would have caused us no end of problems. I certainly would have no cause for complaint had the score have been 1 - 1.
I would like to see Oastler back for the next game as IMO Leadbetter wasn't in the zone going forward or in defence.
A lone signing to shake things up a wee bit wouldn't go amiss.

I think I am with you Phil in that we needed to get the back to back wins monkey off our backs and we did enough to do that. I see on the BBC site, we had 17 shots on goal and if we had our shooting boots on, could have been a rout and can't complain too much if the chances are being created as the goals will surely come.
I don't think the first bout of cold weather helped as I think it was a shock to the system to the crowd and while kicking to the Ellacombe end the crowd didn't need to exalt the players on to greater things as we were leading, a situation different to the Accy, Aldershot and Gillingham matches but something Ling wanted to change and at the end of the day it was job done. The entertainment factor really hasn't been lacking at Plainmoor this season but if we are to have a shot at promotion, then we need to grind out those wins when not quite at our best. That was our fifth game in a fortnight as well so will be good to have a few days off.
I'm really undecided about right back at the moment but thought Leadbitter did OK there again, as he did on Tuesday.

Leadbitter did "OK" he's young and needs games at this level but is OK enough especially defensively. Joe may come back and be just "OK"but for me has the edge because he has so many games under his belt and I can see DL making the odd schoolboy error that could shatter his confidence. Tuesday he was running on adrenalin yesterday a little less perhaps and if Morecambe had had there full compliment available we could well have been whistling a very different tune today.

Funny to watch the Stevens bashers:
Stay on the wing Stevens, stay on the wing Stevens, oh... he's scored.
I thought Danny did a great job getting forward to support Howe - which is surely what he should be doing. Indeed, it looked very much more like a 4-3-3 with Bodin doing likewise. It's just not working for Billy at the moment - he's hesitating a fraction where he was playing by instinct. A player of his age should be expected to go through patches like that.
But if you don't dominate the midfield, you don't dominate the game no matter how many you play up front.
When we moved along at half-time, we ended up next to a signed up member of the anti-Stevens League. "I was disappointed when he scored, because I was really hoping Ling would take him off".
My reply that I thought Stevens had an excellent half, showing great technique and intelligence, shut him up just long enough for us to shuffle a few yards along before he could think up a reply.

Stay on the wing Stevens, stay on the wing Stevens, oh... he's scored. Interesting that Danny received the ball on the wing and took the ball goal wards rather than receive the ball in the middle of the park. He seemed to be playing higher up the park than Rene!

Well I made one of my trips down the M5 for this one, not the most inspiring of games but the victory was what mattered. I really was fearing the worst during the last 5 minutes or so, especially when man mountain Roche came up for the corners!! I was convinced that they would nick one and make us pay for our profligate finishing. I thought Downes was excellent throughout, along with the dependable Saah. I am not sure what to make of Leadbitter at full back. Definitely gives us something going forward but defensively looks suspect. Would I put Oastler back in next game? Probably, but on the other hand does Leadbitter need a run in the side to really show us what he can do? I do think he would maybe have been 'found out' against a more incisive attack. Bodin is another matter. To me he looked like he was trying 'too hard' yesterday, taking an extra touch when maybe one was not necessary. He certainly seems low in confidence but I am sure that he will come good over the course of the season, he just needs to put one of those one on one chances away!

I thought Stevens played well yesterday in the first half and took the goal well. He is a valuable member of the team. It beggars belief that a 'fan' could express disappointment when he scored. Obviously more concerned about having their own half baked theories proved correct than the success of the team!!

I wonder whether the weight of expectation of a large fee (well, for our club) is a consideration - either for Bodin himself or the club in general. I think that it might for some supporters - does that transmit to on-pitch performance? Who knows....
I think he will start to replicate the performances from last season over time, just as the team as a whole will improve as the season progresses.
