An injury to goalkeeper Peter Wakeham and Eric Webber is reluctant to pitch young Roy Milton into the game against Gillingham. But Milton is named in the programme and, according to the centenary history, he played in the game. This was his only Football League appearance for us and, according to the records, he was born in Brixham but signed from Bury.
Too late to play against the Gills we then secured Mervyn Gill – Exeter-born, formerly with Bideford – from Southampton. He went on to play over 150 league games for Torquay United.
A future Torquay United player, Larry Baxter, lining up for Gillingham.
