I have never heard of some of the bands highlighted on this page which, I suppose, demonstrates either my age or my ignorance of lesser known music. However, I do of course know The Band, one of the great groups of the 1960s/1970s, whose members included probably the greatest drummer/singer of all time, namely Levon Helm, who sadly died a few years ago. I believe that Robbie Robertson eventually left the group with some degree of acrimony.
Acrimonious splits came to mind again this evening, as I watched Oasis perform Rock n Roll Star on BBC 4. It is a real tragedy that the brothers fell out to such an extent that the group were forced to split. From all the reports which I have read, the guilty party was actually Noel, who apparently wanted to be the main singer instead of Liam. For me, the group's most endearing quality was Liam's method of singing, lips on the microphone and hands behind his back.
Rolling Stones, Roxy Music and Oasis, the three greatest bands of the past and for all time (of course, that is only my opinion).
Mr W, are you the only person who contributes to this thread now ?

Nice to see Stefano at the most excellent Fairport Convention gig last Wednesday at Ivybridge. Great to see you and your lovely wife too Phil. They really are a great group of people, musically skilled and they all have a brilliant sense of humour. Fairport were the first 'proper' band I saw live I think in about 1969. I also saw them playing on the beach at an Umbrian town called Passignano-sul-Trasimeno during the Trasimeno Blues music festival in 2007 when I worked there for a few years a while back. Been a really good week for me.....an excellent music concert sandwiched between wins for the Chiefs against Saracens and Wasps, and Plainmoor's best current player deciding to give it another season......
